As an intern at AAS,I learnt how this association is a prime example of how freedom of speech can be restored and encouraged.AAS has successfully brought together Asian scholars from all disciplines and have provided a platform where all of their voices are heard in the sphere of international relations.Researchers and scholars discuss and come to a consensus on pressing issues which the world is facing. All of these scholars come from different regional and economic backgrounds and AAS ensures that they are given an opportunity to participate so that they can express their views on many issues which are not boundary or nation specific but affects Asia and even the rest of the world as a whole-Climate crisis ,education and healthcare policies ,women empowerment ,terrorism etc.The truth is that the foreign policy of a nation and the relationships it builds with other countries are essential for the socio-economic development of a country because if we maintain peaceful cordial relationships with nations that provide us necessary resources we will progress.Just like any other aspect of Indian politics and democracy ,foreign relations too requires the same kind of pro-activeness ,participation ,freedom of speech and open discourse.AAS exactly follows these principles and gives researchers the chance to be part of a healthy and crucial debate for each topic related to Asian Studies.
Working under Prof. Reena Marwah ,Secretary-General ,as an intern gave me an insight on her achievements and her dedication to expand and grow AAS in every aspect.I also had the honour of briefly interviewing the President of the association ,Prof. Swaran Singh ,who is also equally committed towards the progress of AAS and desires more and more intelligent scholars to be given a platform to convey their opinions and beliefs. This internship was an extremely insightful enriching experience. The work of AAS is very admirable and I will always remember it.
